Technical, fun, wet, cold and short. This is the best
way to describe Keyhole Canyon. This is a great half day technical canyon
in Zion. There are a couple of canyons like this that you could do in one
day. Technical down-climbing, rappelling and rope skills are required.
Keyhole Canyon has one multi-pitch rappel and numerous raps into cold
pools. This is a reservation / permit route. So be sure to plan ahead and obtain your reservation before making the long trip to Zion's Park. Some walk-in permits are available, but this is risky depending on the time of year. You can go to ReservationsAndPermits for more information. The canyon route is accessed via the Zion / Mt. Carmel Hwy. The hike begins approximately 2 miles East of the small tunnel. It has a hiking round trip distance of 1 mile with a time of 2 - 4 hours. If you like your routes and raps short and sweet, this is the place. This is one of the fun short canyons in Zion to do. Keyhole has rappels to 25' with a possibility of a multi-pitch rap to 50'. |
