Pictures Map Notes
Echo Canyon is another one of the fun, short, wet, cold canyons that Zion National Park has to offer. It is nestled in the heart of the park with easy access into and out of the canyon. It has many enjoyable down-climbs and short rappels. Technical canyoneering skills are required with down-climbs and unusual rappel anchor points.

This is a reservation / permit route. So be sure to plan ahead and obtain your reservation before making the long trip to Zion's Park. Some walk-in permits are available, but this is risky depending on the time of year. You can go to ReservationsAndPermits for more information.

Echo is accessed by parking at the Weeping Rock parking lot and taking the Observation Point Trail for 2 miles. At this point you will cross the wash and continue until you come to the East Rim Trail junction. Continue up the East Rim Trail another .5 miles and look for a place to drop into Echo Canyon.

Conditions in this canyon can change at any time. Some rappels with be longer or shorter due to water levels. Many pools are full of debris and will require careful swimming to pass through. Pools are cold and require wetsuits for most canyoneers. Some pools / holes may be difficult to get out of if water level is low or are dry. During the peak summer months the water flow is dry and some pools may become stagnate.

The length of the slot thrash is approximately .5 miles. You will exit the canyon on your right and hike the Observation Point Trail back to the Weeping Rock parking area.
