Coach Dennis Fisher

Coach Fisher is head coach of the Brigham Young University Racquetball Team. Under his leadership, BYU has won 4-combined team and 8 women's team national collegiate championships. He has dedicated the last nine years to learning, studying, analyzing, developing, and implementing racquetball-training programs at all levels. Coach Fisher is chairman of the USRA Intercollegiate Council and also a member of Wilson's Racquetball Advisory Staff. Coach Fisher has a BS in Sports Science / Sports Medicine and is currently working on his MS in Sports Psychology. He is a certified level II coach by the USRA and AmPRO, AmPRO Professional Instructor, USRSA Racquet Technician and Wilson Racquet Technician. In 1999 the USRA and USOC selected Coach Fisher as Developmental Coach of the Year. Coach Fisher's coaching philosophy is "train hard ~ play for fun ~ compete to win." He believes in developing the complete competitive player from beginning to end. What that means is, working on all aspects of the game, not just a few. If you want to compete and improve, you must devote time to: 1) mechanics, 2) more mechanics, 3) even more mechanics, 4) x-training, 5) nutrition, 6)mental toughness, 7) drills, 8) more drills, 9) even more drills, and of course, 10) playing and having fun doing it. Coach Fisher says, "training and coaching are like our spiritual progression. We must constantly strive to improve and make ourselves better than we were the day before if we want to be the best we can be." He also insists "it's not how much time we spend at performing a task that will perfect it, it's the quality of our work that will perfect the task that we perform." He also has a love for developmental (recreational) racquetball and enjoys working with novice players, assisting them in whatever level they want to achieve, young or old.

Coach Derek "big d" Robinson

Derek, also known as "Big D," is a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the court. Derek is currently ranked in the top 10 on the men's professional racquetball tour, IRT. Lets take a quick look at the past. Derek started playing racquetball when he was 8 years old. His Dad introduced him to the game and Derek got involved playing tournaments right away. In fact, at 9 years old, he won his first Junior Regional and won a free trip to Memphis, TN to play the Junior Nationals, winning a bronze medal. He was hooked, big time, after playing the National event. Derek played all through school and into college. His game was so impressive he was offered and accepted a full scholarship to Southwest Missouri State University. He majored in Communications/Public Relations and minored in General Business. During Derek's college career, he won the Intercollegiate Championships three times and was a 3-time All American ('91,93,94). After his brilliant college career, Derek made a big splash with the USRA (United States Racquetball Association). He won the gold medal at the 1994 Olympic Festival and was on the U.S. Team that took the gold at the 1995 World Championships and Pan American Games. 1996 was a good year for Derek, taking home the gold medal at the National Doubles Championships and the bronze medal at the National Singles Championships. Currently, Derek is one of the top players in the game. Consistently a top 8 IRT ranked player over the past 5 years, Derek also conducts over 75 exhibition/clinics a year and raises thousands of dollars annually for junior racquetball organizations in over 40 states. The present looks bright for Derek. At 6'4" the Gentle Giant uses his height as a weapon. He's tough to pass and can get to balls his opponents thought were sure winners. Combined with a superior backhand, Derek is an intimidating presence. An excellent teacher and clinician, Derek loves to golf and fish. He currently resides in Littleton, Colorado with his wife Tina and two children, Ethan and Emily

BIG "D" RACQUETBALL

Coach jim "jw" winterton

Coach Winterton has been teaching racquetball for 30 years. He has coached six junior national champions in the 70s and 80s before he began working the USAR national elite camp program. He has worked at the USOC for 18 years. He was recently named high performance (formerly known as the elite camp) camp director. Coach Winterton was named USA head coach in 1990 and stepped down in 1999 to coach the USA junior team. His teams won world titles in 92, 94, 95, and 1998. Twice in 1995 and 1999 his junior teams won world titles. In 2000 Coach Winterton coached Mexico to its first gold ever as its men's doubles and singles entries won world titles. In 2002 he coached the USA on an interim basis and the United States regained its world title it lost to Canada in 2002. Since 1990 his teams have won 5 world titles in adult competition and two world titles in junior competition. In addition, Coach Winterton is the only coach ever to be named coach of the year by the USOC in racquetball twice, 1995 and 1999. Those years his teams swept PanAm medal competitions. His coaching philosophy is simple. "Practice makes perfect" is not true, "perfect practice makes perfect" is.

Coach Chris evon

Coach Evon was a consistent top ten player on the Women's Professional tour.  She retired in 1995 with her highest ranking of #4.  Her strengths were her high fitness level, her quickness, and her methodical approach to the game.  Chris competed on four Olympic Festival teams, and has won numerous State, Regional, and National titles in both singles and doubles. Chris has coached at the National Elite Training camps and the National Junior Team Camps.  She has conducted numerous camps and clinics across the country and currently teaches private lessons at her home club in Chicago. Chris has a bachelors degree in Physical Education and a Masters degree in Sports Psychology.  She is an AmPro certified clinician and enjoys teaching beginners as well as coaching top players to achieve their physical and mental goals. Chris served as President of the Women's Professional Racquetball Association, (WPRA) for four years and was awarded the Steding Cup for her contributions both on and off the court.  She was also the recipient of the WPRA Sportsmanship Award. Chris currently works for Wilson Sporting Goods as the Marketing Director for Indoor Racquet Sports. My philosophy on teaching is that each person is different.  It is important to analyze individual styles and to formulate training schedules based on what works for each player.   At the advanced level, it is critical to recognize the differences in athletes at both a physical level and psychological level, and to adapt training techniques accordingly. I am a firm believer in teaching fundamentals and the importance of incorporating mental training as early as possible.

Coach Marcy lynch

In addition to competing and teaching, she developed a nutrition consulting practice where she coached hundreds of clients in adopting healthy lifestyle habits.

Since retiring from the Pro Tour, Marcy founded Breakthrough Concepts, a performance and life coaching practice.  Marcy realized that the same coaching techniques that helped her become successful as an athlete could help others in the pursuit of their own goals. The mission of Breakthrough Concepts is to coach motivated and energetic individuals who are serious about a level of personal and professional excellence. Marcy accomplishes this mission by challenging her clients to breakthrough old patterns to create new, more effective ones in the areas of health and fitness, sports/business performance, and life.

Marcy's coaching practice is based on a simple philosophy. She believes that passion generates enormous energy that can be used to achieve incredible goals. The key to achieving true potential is to access passion.  Marcy will coach you to discover what is important to you and to create a life that supports your priorities. Just as world class athletes benefit from the structure and motivation a coach provides, Marcy can coach you to be a winner! Take the challenge to create a life that works for you.
