Coach Dennis Fisher
Coach Fisher is head coach of the Brigham Young University Racquetball Team. Under his leadership, BYU has won 4-combined team and 8 women's team national collegiate championships. He has dedicated the last nine years to learning, studying, analyzing, developing, and implementing racquetball-training programs at all levels. Coach Fisher is chairman of the USRA Intercollegiate Council and also a member of Wilson's Racquetball Advisory Staff. Coach Fisher has a BS in Sports Science / Sports Medicine and is currently working on his MS in Sports Psychology. He is a certified level II coach by the USRA and AmPRO, AmPRO Professional Instructor, USRSA Racquet Technician and Wilson Racquet Technician. In 1999 the USRA and USOC selected Coach Fisher as Developmental Coach of the Year. Coach Fisher's coaching philosophy is "train hard ~ play for fun ~ compete to win." He believes in developing the complete competitive player from beginning to end. What that means is, working on all aspects of the game, not just a few. If you want to compete and improve, you must devote time to: 1) mechanics, 2) more mechanics, 3) even more mechanics, 4) x-training, 5) nutrition, 6)mental toughness, 7) drills, 8) more drills, 9) even more drills, and of course, 10) playing and having fun doing it. Coach Fisher says, "training and coaching are like our spiritual progression. We must constantly strive to improve and make ourselves better than we were the day before if we want to be the best we can be." He also insists "it's not how much time we spend at performing a task that will perfect it, it's the quality of our work that will perfect the task that we perform." He also has a love for developmental (recreational) racquetball and enjoys working with novice players, assisting them in whatever level they want to achieve, young or old. Coach Derek "big d" Robinson
Derek, also known as "Big D," is a force to
be reckoned with, both on and off the court. Derek
is currently ranked in the top 10 on the men's
professional racquetball tour, IRT. Lets take a
quick look at the past. Derek started playing
racquetball when he was 8 years old. His Dad
introduced him to the game and Derek got involved
playing tournaments right away. In fact, at 9
years old, he won his first Junior Regional and
won a free trip to Memphis, TN to play the Junior
Nationals, winning a bronze medal. He was hooked,
big time, after playing the National event. Derek
played all through school and into college. His
game was so impressive he was offered and accepted
a full scholarship to Southwest Missouri State
University. He majored in Communications/Public
Relations and minored in General Business. During
Derek's college career, he won the Intercollegiate
Championships three times and was a 3-time All
American ('91,93,94). After his brilliant college
career, Derek made a big splash with the USRA
(United States Racquetball Association). He won
the gold medal at the 1994 Olympic Festival and
was on the U.S. Team that took the gold at the
1995 World Championships and Pan American Games.
1996 was a good year for Derek, taking home the
gold medal at the National Doubles Championships
and the bronze medal at the National Singles
Championships. Currently, Derek is one of the top
players in the game. Consistently a top 8 IRT
ranked player over the past 5 years, Derek also
conducts over 75 exhibition/clinics a year and
raises thousands of dollars annually for junior
racquetball organizations in over 40 states. The
present looks bright for Derek. At 6'4" the Gentle
Giant uses his height as a weapon. He's tough to
pass and can get to balls his opponents thought
were sure winners. Combined with a superior
backhand, Derek is an intimidating presence. An
excellent teacher and clinician, Derek loves to
golf and fish. He currently resides in Littleton,
Colorado with his wife Tina and two children,
